The Watchman Program
Faith-based
congregations play a vital role in our community providing spiritual
care, social interaction, and various levels of support. Hospice care
is an extension of the churches’ roles and recognizes religious
congregations as the cornerstone for service delivery to the community.
The Watchman Program, offered through Hospice & Community Care,
is a further extension of the ministries provided by churches and
Hospice & Community Care and is being successfully utilized in
many diverse congregations and communities in our area.
What is a Watchman?
Through
the Watchman Program, Hospice & Community Care trains Watchman
volunteers to serve as liaisons with their churches and communities.
Watchmen aid in identifying and communicating needs and help to educate
others about end of life issues and hospice services. By being trained
volunteers of Hospice & Community Care, Watchmen are able to share
knowledge and information about all aspects of the Hospice way of
caring for life.
Coming from diverse churches, community groups, civic organizations, clubs, colleges, and businesses located in various geographical areas served by Hospice & Community Care, these volunteers regularly meet together to gain valuable information and to better equip themselves for their
volunteer roles.
Watchman Volunteers
Watchmen
are able to communicate Hospice & Community Care events and services
to their churches and communities, schedule educational programs,
recruit new volunteers, answer questionsabout services provided by
Hospice & Community Care, raise awareness by serving on smaller
Watchman Teams, and to utilize their interests and abilities
in various volunteer capacities. Volunteers distinguish
Hospice & Community Care from traditional health care. For additional
