Support Groups

    Six-Week Grief Support Group
After a loss, groups can be a very meaningful way to heal. They offer a confidential and caring atmosphere to share and learn with others who have also had a loss. Groups are open to the community at no charge and participants do not have to be Hospice families. For details or to pre-register call the Bereavement Department at 803-329-1500 or e-mail info@hospicecommunitycare.org.

    Men's Group
    A group just for men.
Morning Men's Group meets each week on Tuesday and Friday.

Do men and women handle grief and bereavement differently?

Statistics indicate that they do. Men tend to have less social support following a loss, which can leave them feeling lonely, isolated or left out.

In over twenty years of service, Hospice & Community Care has provided a variety of support opportunities in response to community requests and needs. To meet identified needs, a Hospice Men’s Group has been formed. It is not traditional “grief” group or a “therapy” group. It’s an opportunity for widowers to get together and talk about whatever interests them, in the company of others who have had similar losses. This has proved to be quite helpful in the grief process.

Men’s Support Groups meet every Tuesday and Friday. There is no set agenda, merely good fellowship. For more information or meeting details see the calendar (click here) or contact a Hospice & Community Care Bereavement Counselor at 803-329-1500 or e-mail info@hospicecommunitycare.org.

    “Caring Connections ”
A support group for those who love someone with dementia
Meets second Mondays each month from 2– 3:30 p.m.

Taking care of someone we love is hard work. It is particulary difficult when that loved one happens to have dementia. Caregivers of a loved one with dementia often deal with issues such as: their loved one no longer being the person they used to be, handling the regret of needing to place their loved one in a nursing facility, or being exhausted from taking care of another person.

Hospice & Communtiy Care offers its dementia support group for those who love and tke care of someone with dementia. Group members share helpful hints and information about taking care of a loved one with dementia and support one another through their daily journey. This program is open to the community at no charge.

For more information or to register, contact the Bereavement Department at 803-329-1500 or e-mail inf@hospicecommunitycare.org.
