Childrens' Programs

Children who are grieving need a safe place to express their
feelings, someone to talk to openly about their thoughts and fears. We offer the following programs for children and families.

    Rain and Rainbows
It takes both rain and sunshine to make a rainbow.

Children who are grieving need a safe place to express their feelings, someone to talk to openly about their thoughts and fears, and guidance to help them incorporate the loss into their lives.

Hospice & Community Care offers Rain & Rainbows, a one-day camp for children ages 6-12 who are grieving. The program is offered free of charge and open to any child ages 6 - 12 who has experienced the death of a family member or friend.

  • The program uses art, music, storytelling, video and play activities in a group setting.
  • The day is designed to help children express feelings, remember the person they loved, and provide them with ‘tools’ to continue toward healing.
  • Lunch and snacks are provided.

    Young Adult Support Group
Young adulthood is a time of transition which may include going to college, moving away from home, becoming more independent and assuming new responsibilities. A loss due to death can have a tremendous impact on a young adult’s life. Hospice & Community Care would like to help those young adults whose grief needs are often overlooked. We offer a six-week grief support group for young adults between the ages of 18 to 25 years old who has recently experienced the death of a family member or friend. If you are interested in joining this group, contact Hospice & Community Care at 803-329-1500 or e-mail info@hospicecommunitycare.org.

    Camp Hopeful
When someone we care for dies, it awakens many emotions in us. Death can leave us feeling confused, lonely, sad or angry. When this happens to a teenager, feelings can seem overwhelming. Teens need people who will listen without judging. They also seek suggestions on how they can cope during this unsettled time. Often other teens who have had a loss are their best support.

Hospice & Community Care offers a one day grief support camp for adolescents between the ages of 13-18 who have recently experienced the death of someone significant in their life. The purpose of this camp is to provide an opportunity for adolescents to heal with other grieving adolescents in a safe environment that is supportive while providing a structure to learn, grow and play together.

Participants utilize a variety of techniques such as arts and crafts, poetry and music to aid in their grief process. Lunch and snacks are provided. Registration is required. If you would like more information on Camp Hopeful, call us at 803-329-1500.
